Satin silk bedding

What the satin range is, and what it is not.

Satin is a weave, not a fibre. It is what gives a fabric the smooth face and the sheen, and it says nothing about what the fabric is made from. Our satin bedding is polyester. It is not silk, and it costs a fraction of what silk costs, which is the whole point of it.

The range has carried the name "satin silk" for years and we have kept it so the products stay findable. The specification on every page tells you what you are actually buying.

What is in the satin range

  • Satin bedding set, in black, blue, gold, red or white, in King or Super King, as a four or six piece set
  • Satin pillowcase, in nine colours at €29
  • Satin pyjama sets, robes and a negligee for men and women, in the women's and men's sections

Satin bedding or silk bedding?

If you want the look and the feel for the least money, satin does that well. It washes easily, holds its colour and needs almost no ironing.

If you sleep hot, buy silk instead. Polyester traps warmth against you rather than moving it away, and that is the one thing satin cannot fix at any price. Our mulberry silk flat sheet and 22 momme silk pillowcases are the natural fibre.

Common questions

Is satin silk bedding actually silk?

No. Satin describes the weave and ours is polyester. The name is the one the range has always carried and we have kept it, with the truth in the specification on each page.

What is in a bedding set?

The four piece and six piece configurations are listed on the product page, which sets out exactly what each one includes.

What sizes do you sell?

King and Super King. There is no single or double in this range.

Will it fit a deep mattress?

Measure your mattress depth before ordering, because depth is what catches people out rather than width. The dimensions are on the product page.

What colours are there?

Black, blue, gold, red and white in the bedding sets, and nine colours in the satin pillowcases.

Can I machine wash it?

Yes, and satin is more forgiving than silk. Warm or cold on a normal cycle, tumble dry on low. Avoid high heat, which is what makes polyester pill over time.

Does it need ironing?

Rarely. It drops most creases as it hangs. If you do iron it, keep the setting cool, because a hot iron scorches polyester and the mark is permanent.

Does it fade?

Polyester holds dye well and fades slowly, better than silk in that one respect. Prolonged direct sunlight will still take the edge off the black and the red, so dry it in the shade.

Will it pill?

It can, where it rubs. Washing cool and drying on low is what prevents it.

Is satin bedding hot to sleep in?

Warmer than silk. Polyester traps heat rather than moving it, so if you wake up too warm, the silk range is the honest answer rather than a different satin colour.

Is it good for sensitive skin?

We make no claim about skin for the satin range. The surface is smooth, which is the extent of what we will say about it.

Do you sell kids' sizes?

No. The captured version of this page said we did, with flame-resistant options, and neither was true of anything we sell.

How much is delivery?

Free on orders of €75 or more, which every bedding set clears on its own. Below that it is a flat €25.

Can I return it?

Yes, 14 days from delivery to change your mind under EU consumer law, unused and in resaleable condition.
