As with any baby clothing, check them before each use for loose threads or a pulled seam, and stop using them if you find either. A loose thread around a finger is the risk worth knowing about with any mitt, in any fabric.

They cover the hand, which is the point, and that does mean less touching and grasping. Most guidance suggests using mitts when they are needed rather than all the time, so a baby can explore with their hands.

Silk is smoother and lighter than cotton and does not shed fibres the way brushed cotton can. Some parents prefer it against very new skin for that reason.
