Frequently Asked Questions

What is in the 4 piece set?

A duvet or quilt cover, one flat sheet and two pillowcases.

What is in the 6 piece set?

The same duvet cover and flat sheet, with four pillowcases instead of two. It is the set to pick if you keep more pillows on the bed or want spares in the wash.

Is this silk?

No. It is satin, which is a weave rather than a fibre, and satin bedding is usually polyester. We sell a 100% mulberry silk flat sheet separately if you want the natural fibre.

Why is it called satin silk then?

Because that is the name the range has always carried, and we have kept it so the product stays findable. The specification on this page says satin, and the material line says polyester weave, because that is what it is.

What sizes are there?

King and Super King. King suits a standard king mattress; Super King is the larger frame and takes a deeper mattress more comfortably.

Which size should I order?

Measure the mattress width and depth. If you are between the two, the larger set tucks better and looks fuller, and it is EUR 20 more.

What colours are there?

Five: black, blue, gold, red and white.

Why is the 6 piece more expensive?

Two extra pillowcases. That is the only difference between the two sets in the same size.

Can I machine wash it?

Yes, and it is easier to look after than silk. Warm or cold on a normal cycle, tumble dry on low. Avoid high heat, which pills polyester over time.

Does it need ironing?

Rarely. Satin drops most of its creases as it hangs. If you do iron it, keep the setting cool.

Is it hot to sleep under?

Polyester traps more heat than a natural fibre. If you sleep hot, this is the trade-off for the price, and a real silk sheet manages temperature better.

Does it feel like silk?

On the surface, largely yes, which is the point of a satin weave. Where it differs is breathability and how it handles moisture over a whole night.

Will it pill?

It can with hot washing and heavy use, which silk does not do. Washing cool and drying low is what prevents it.

Does the colour fade?

Polyester holds dye well and fades slowly. The black and the red will still soften with prolonged direct sunlight, so dry in shade.

Will the dark colours run?

Give a saturated colour its own first wash. After that it is fine with similar shades.

Is it slippery?

Satin is smooth, so a satin duvet cover over a satin sheet can slide more than you want. Some people pair it with a cotton fitted sheet for that reason.

Is there a fitted sheet in the set?

No, the set includes a flat sheet rather than a fitted one.

Can I buy extra pillowcases?

Yes, our satin pillowcases are sold singly in nine colours.

Is it good for hair and skin?

A smooth surface catches hair less, the same as any satin or silk. We make no medical or anti-ageing claims for it.

Is it hypoallergenic?

We do not make that claim for this or for our silk products.

How does it compare to your silk sheet?

Different fabric, different price. A single real silk flat sheet costs more than this whole set, which is the clearest way to see the difference.

How long does a set last?

With cool washing, a couple of years of regular use before the surface starts to dull. Real silk holds its surface longer.

Is it suitable for a guest room?

It is one of the better choices for one. It looks generous, it survives being washed by someone else, and it costs a fraction of a silk set.

Do you sell it as a gift?

It ships in our standard packaging. Embroidery is available as a separate add-on product.

How much is delivery?

Free. Every set here is well over the EUR 75 threshold.

How long does delivery take?

Allow 5 to 7 days across Europe once your order is on its way.

Can I return it?

Yes, 14 days from delivery to change your mind under EU consumer law. It is a standard stock item, so the right applies in full.

Can I return it once it has been washed?

A change-of-mind return needs the set in resaleable condition, so unopened or unwashed is straightforward. A fault or transit damage is separate and we will replace it.

Do you sell to hotels or guest houses?

Yes. There is a wholesale page, and it is worth contacting us directly for quantities.

Do the colours match the photos?

Closely, though satin reflects strongly, so all five read brighter on a screen than they do on a made bed. The gold shifts most.

What you actually get

The 4 piece set is a duvet or quilt cover, one flat sheet and two pillowcases. The 6 piece set is the same duvet cover and flat sheet with four pillowcases instead of two. That is the only difference between them, and it is EUR 10. There is no fitted sheet in either set, which is the thing most worth knowing before you order.

Sizes are King and Super King. If you are between the two, the larger set tucks better and hangs fuller on a deep mattress, for EUR 20 more.

Satin, and why the name says silk

This is satin, a weave rather than a fibre, and satin bedding is usually polyester. The range has carried the name "satin silk" for years and we have kept it so the product stays findable, but the specification on this page says what it is. If you want the natural fibre, our mulberry silk bed sheet is 100% silk, and a single sheet of it costs more than this entire set. That comparison is probably the clearest way to understand what you are choosing between.

Where a satin set makes sense

Guest rooms, mostly, and beds that get made by someone other than you. It looks generous on a bed, it survives a normal wash and a tumble dryer, it holds its colour well, and it costs a fraction of silk. Those are real advantages and they are the reason this is the most ordered bedding we sell.

The trade-off is heat. Polyester traps warmth and does not move moisture the way a natural fibre does, so anyone who sleeps hot will notice it over a full night under a duvet. That matters more in a set than it does in a single pillowcase, simply because there is more of it against you.

Looking after it

Wash warm or cold on a normal cycle and tumble dry on low. Keep the heat down in both: high temperatures are what make polyester pill and dull. Give a saturated colour like the black or the red its own first wash, then it is fine with similar shades. It rarely needs ironing, and if you do, keep the iron cool.

One practical note people do not expect: a satin duvet cover over a satin flat sheet is a slippery combination, and some people pair the set with a cotton fitted sheet underneath to keep everything where they left it.
