What is in the set?

Are the bottoms shorts or full length?
Shorts, ending above the knee. The winter set in the same fabric is the long sleeve, full length version.
Is this real silk?
No. Satin is a weave, not a fibre. The mulberry silk pyjamas on this site are the natural fibre and cost more.
What fibre is it then?
The fibre content is not published for this set and we would rather say that than invent a number. Satin sleepwear at this price is usually polyester or a viscose blend. Ask us before ordering and we will check with the supplier.
Do the shorts have pockets?
Yes, one on each side. The top has a chest pocket.
Is the waist adjustable?
Yes, the shorts have an elasticated waist with a drawstring inside, so you can set it where you want it.
What is the piping?
A contrast trim along the collar, the front placket, the sleeve ends, the pocket and the hem of the shorts. It is white on the black and the blue.
What sizes do you sell?
L, XL and XXL in all three colours.
Do you sell a medium?
Not any more. The medium came off the range because there is no stock behind it, and we would rather show you nothing than take an order we cannot pick.
Do the sizes run true?
They run to the chart on this page rather than to a European or UK standard, and the cut is deliberately loose. Measure a shirt you already own across the chest before choosing.
Which colours are there?
Black, blue and red.
Is the red bright or deep?
It is a deep red rather than a bright one, and it reads darker in low light than it does on screen.
Can I wear the top on its own?
Plenty of people do. A piped satin camp collar top is close enough to a shirt to wear around the house or by a pool.
Is it cool enough for summer?
The cut is, since it is short sleeved with shorts. The fabric itself holds warmth more than a natural fibre does, so on the hottest nights our real silk sleepwear is the better answer.
Can I machine wash it?
Yes, cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent and no bleach. Wash it inside out to protect the finish and the piping.
Can it go in the tumble dryer?
Low heat only, and hanging it to dry is better. Heat dulls the satin face and makes it pill.
Does it need ironing?
Not often. If you do, keep the iron cool and work on the reverse, because a hot iron marks satin permanently.
Will the piping shrink differently from the body?
Not if you wash it cold. Hot water is what puckers a trim against the fabric it is sewn to.
Does the colour run?
Give the black and the red their own first wash. After that they are fine with similar colours.
Does satin snag?
It can, on rough nails, watch straps and velcro. That is true of any smooth woven fabric rather than a fault in this one.
Is it see through?
No. It is opaque in all three colours.
Is it hypoallergenic?
We make no such claim. If sensitive skin is the reason you are looking at sleepwear, the mulberry silk range is the natural protein fibre and is the one most people in that position choose.
Is it a good gift?
It is one of the most gifted items on the site. The 14 day return right covers a size swap if you guess wrong.
Can I have it embroidered?
Yes. Embroidery and monogramming is a separate item on this site, added to the same order.
How much is delivery?

This is the summer half of our men's satin range. The top is short sleeved,
buttons all the way down, and has a notch collar and a chest pocket. The shorts
have side pockets and an elasticated waist with a drawstring inside, so you can
set the fit rather than living with whatever the elastic decides. Both pieces are
finished with contrast piping along the collar, the placket, the cuffs and the
hems.

What the fabric is, and what it is not
Satin is a weave. It describes how the threads cross, which is what produces
the smooth face and the sheen, and it tells you nothing about the fibre. We do
not have a published fibre content for this set, so we are not going to print
one. What we can say plainly is that it is not silk. If you want the natural
fibre, the mulberry silk sleepwear on this site is real silk and the price
difference reflects it.
Living with it
Cold gentle wash, inside out, mild detergent, no bleach. Hang it to dry, or
tumble on low if you have to. Keep the iron cool and work on the reverse, because
heat is what dulls a satin finish and marks it permanently. The black and the red
get their own first wash, as any deep dye should.
The one honest limitation is heat. A synthetic satin holds warmth rather than
moving it away from you, so on the hottest nights the
real silk sleepwear in the same part of the shop will do
a better job than this set will.
