Got questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
What does 22 momme actually mean?
Momme is how silk weight is measured, in the same way thread count is used for cotton. This pillowcase is 22 momme, which is the weight most people settle on: lighter silk around 16 momme feels thin and wears at the seams sooner, and heavier silk above 25 momme costs a good deal more without feeling very different to sleep on.
Is this real silk or is it satin?
It is real silk. Satin is a weave, not a fibre, so a satin pillowcase is often polyester. This is 100% mulberry silk. If you want the satin option we sell that separately, and it is a different fabric rather than a cheaper version of this one.
Is it silk on both sides?
Yes. Some pillowcases are silk on one face and cotton on the other, which halves the cost and halves the point. Both faces here are the same silk, so it does not matter which way it lands on the bed.
What size is it?
51cm x 76cm, which fits a standard European or UK pillow. It is not a king or a body pillow size.
Will it fit my pillow?
If your pillow is a standard 50cm x 75cm it will fit comfortably. A very deep or overfilled pillow may stretch it, which is worth knowing before you order.
How does it close?
With a hidden zip along one edge. The pillow stays inside instead of working its way out overnight, and because the zip is sewn in rather than sitting on the surface there is nothing to press against your face.
Can I machine wash it?
Yes. Cold water, gentle cycle, mild detergent, no bleach. Line dry or tumble dry on low.
Will washing ruin the silk?
Not if you wash it cold and gently. What damages silk is hot water, bleach, harsh detergent and a hot tumble dryer. Treated properly it holds up to regular washing.
Can I iron it?
Yes, on a cool setting and on the reverse side. Most people do not bother, since silk drops most of its creases as it hangs.
How often should I wash it?
About as often as any pillowcase, so roughly weekly. If you use heavy night creams or hair oils you may want to wash it more often, because those build up on any fabric.
Does silk really help with bedhead?
Silk has a smoother surface than woven cotton, so hair slides over it instead of catching. People with long or curly hair usually notice the difference most. It is a fair reason to buy one, and it is not a cure for anything.
Is it good for my skin?
Silk is smoother than cotton and holds less moisture, so it does not draw as much of your moisturiser off your face overnight and it creases skin less while you sleep. We do not claim it treats any skin condition, because we cannot show you evidence for that.
Does it prevent wrinkles?
No, and we are not going to say it does. A smoother surface means fewer of the temporary sleep creases you see in the mirror first thing. That is a different thing from ageing, and anyone telling you a pillowcase prevents wrinkles is overselling it.
Is it hypoallergenic?
We do not make that claim. Silk is a natural protein fibre and some people with sensitive skin prefer it, but hypoallergenic is a specific claim and we have no test data to support it for this product.
Is silk hot to sleep on?
Most people find it does not trap heat the way a heavy cotton or flannel case does, and it feels cool to the touch when you first lie down. If you sleep very hot, the pillowcase is only one part of that: your duvet and mattress matter more.
Is it worth it in winter?
It does not feel cold in the way a linen case can. Silk sits closer to your own temperature than most fabrics, which is why the same pillowcase suits both seasons.
Which colour should I pick?
Whichever you like. All eleven are the same silk at the same weight and the same price, so there is no quality difference to weigh up. Darker colours hide hair-product marks between washes a little better.
Do the colours match the photos exactly?
They are close, but screens vary and silk shifts noticeably with the light. Gold in particular reads warmer in daylight than it does on a phone.
Will the colour run in the wash?
Wash it cold and separately for the first wash, as you would with any dyed silk. After that it can go in with similar colours.
Do you sell them in pairs?
They are sold singly, so order two if you want a matching pair. Two of the same colour is the usual choice, though a lot of people buy two different ones.
Can I buy a matching sheet?
Yes. We sell mulberry silk sheets separately, in black and white, in two sizes.
Is this the same as your satin pillowcase?
No. The satin silk pillowcase is a different, lighter fabric at a lower price. This one is 22 momme mulberry silk. Neither is a downgrade of the other, they are just different things.
How long will it last?
With cold gentle washing, years. The seams and the zip usually give out before the silk does, which is true of most pillowcases.
Does it come in a gift box?
It ships in our standard packaging. If you want it monogrammed we offer embroidery as a separate item.
Can I get my initials on it?
Yes, we offer embroidery as an add-on product. Add it to your order alongside the pillowcase.
How much is delivery?
Delivery across Europe is EUR 25, and it is free on orders over EUR 75. Two pillowcases will not quite reach the threshold, three will.
How long does delivery take?
Allow 5 to 7 days across Europe once your order is on its way.
Can I return it if I change my mind?
Yes. You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind under EU consumer law, and this is a standard stock item so that right applies in full.
Can I return it if I have slept on it?
Change-of-mind returns need the item to be in a resaleable condition, so an unwashed and unused pillowcase is straightforward. If it arrived faulty or damaged that is a different matter and we will sort it out regardless.
Do you sell to hotels or shops?
Yes. There is a wholesale page with the details, and it is worth contacting us directly for quantities.

Silk, and nothing else
This is a 100% mulberry silk pillowcase. Not a silk blend, not satin woven
from polyester, and not silk on one side and cotton on the other. Both faces are
the same silk, so it does not matter which way it lands on the bed.
It is 22 momme. Momme is simply how silk weight is measured, the way thread
count is used for cotton. Lighter silk around 16 momme feels thinner and wears
out faster at the seams. Heavier silk above 25 momme costs considerably more.
At 22 momme this sits where most people want it: it drapes properly, it feels
substantial rather than papery, and it survives regular washing.
The practical bits
It measures 51cm x 76cm, which fits a standard European or UK pillow. There
is a hidden zip along one edge, so the pillow stays inside it and you do not
wake up holding an empty case. The zip is sewn in rather than sitting on the
surface, so there is nothing to press against your face.
You can machine wash it. Cold water, gentle cycle, mild detergent, no bleach,
and either line dry or tumble dry on low. Iron on the reverse if you want it
flat, though most people do not bother. It is a pillowcase, not an heirloom.
What silk actually does, and what we are not going to tell you
Silk fibre has a smoother surface than woven cotton. Hair and skin slide over
it instead of catching, which is why people who wake with creased faces or messy
hair often prefer it, and why it is a common recommendation for anyone with
long or curly hair. It also holds less moisture than cotton, so it does not draw
as much of your moisturiser off your face overnight.
That is the honest extent of it. We are not going to claim this pillowcase
reduces wrinkles, treats a skin condition, or is hypoallergenic, because we
cannot show you the evidence for any of that. If you want one because it feels
better to sleep on and it looks good on the bed, those are perfectly good
reasons, and they are the real ones.
Eleven colours, all the same price
Black, blue, brown, gold, lavender, light blue, mint green, pink, red, silver
and white. Every colour is the same silk at the same weight and the same price,
so pick the one you like rather than the one that is cheapest. If you want a
lighter-weight option, the satin silk
pillowcase is the alternative, and it is a different fabric rather than a
lesser version of this one.
